Jerzy Maksymiuk (born 9 April 1936 in Grodno) is a Polish conductor, composer and pianist who founded the Polish Chamber Orchestra in 1972 - the ensemble that later became Sinfonia Varsovia - and led it to Carnegie Hall, the London Proms and the Wiener Musikverein. From 1983 to 1993 he served as Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, earning the title of Conductor Laureate, and has since conducted over 200 world premieres of contemporary works across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
