About

King Woman is an American doom metal band from San Francisco, formed in 2009 by vocalist and songwriter Kristina Esfandiari. The band blends doom metal, shoegaze, and post-rock into a sound built around Esfandiari's wide-ranging contralto voice and lyrics drawn from her childhood in a charismatic Christian community. Their debut album Created in the Image of Suffering (Relapse Records, 2017) was named one of the best rock albums of the year by Pitchfork; the follow-up Celestial Blues (2021) debuted at #4 on the Billboard Hard Music Albums chart and received universal acclaim on Metacritic.
