About
Lizz Wright (born January 22, 1980, in Hahira, Georgia) is an American singer and songwriter whose deep contralto draws on gospel, jazz, soul, and folk. Raised as the daughter of a minister, she grew up directing her father's church choir before signing with Verve Records at 23 and releasing her acclaimed debut Salt (2003). After a run of albums on Verve, Universal, and Concord, she launched her own Blues & Greens Records in 2022 and released her eighth studio album, Shadow, in April 2024.
