Manfred Krug (1937-2016) was a German actor, singer and author who built two distinct careers on either side of the Iron Curtain. In East Germany he became a DEFA film star and one of the most popular jazz and chanson singers on the state label Amiga, often writing his own lyrics under the pen name Clemens Kerber. After signing a petition against Wolf Biermann's expatriation in 1976 he faced a partial professional ban, and in 1977 he left for West Berlin - an experience he later described in his memoir 'Abgehauen'. In the West he reinvented himself as a television actor, playing the Hamburg detective Paul Stoever in 'Tatort' (1984-2001, 41 episodes) and the Berlin lawyer Robert Liebling in 'Liebling Kreuzberg' (1986-1998).
The third and final volume of Krug's posthumous diary series, 'Ich beginne wieder von vorn. Tagebücher 2000-2001', was published by Kanon Verlag on 18 September 2024.
The second volume of his posthumous diaries, 'Ich bin zu zart für diese Welt. Tagebücher 1998-1999', was published by Kanon Verlag in 2023.
The first volume of Krug's posthumously published diaries, 'Ich sammle mein Leben zusammen. Tagebücher 1996-1997', appeared from Kanon Verlag in 2022.
