The Münchner Symphoniker (Munich Symphony Orchestra) is a German orchestra founded in Munich in 1945 by conductor and composer Kurt Graunke, initially under the name Graunke Symphony Orchestra. Since 1990 it has carried its current name and gives around 100 concerts a year at venues including the Herkulessaal, the Prinzregententheater and the Isarphilharmonie. Beyond its concert seasons, the orchestra is internationally known for recording more than 500 film scores - among them Howard Shore's music for The Silence of the Lambs and Jerry Goldsmith's score for The Wind and the Lion. Since the 2023/24 season, French-Swiss conductor Joseph Bastian has served as chief conductor and artistic director.
