Quadro Nuevo is a German acoustic quartet founded in 1996 near Salzburg, whose music draws on tango, flamenco, Balkan swing, valse musette and Mediterranean folk to forge a sound that sits comfortably in no single genre. The core trio of saxophonist Mulo Francel, accordionist Andreas Hinterseher and bassist D.D. Lowka has given over 4,000 concerts worldwide, from Carnegie Hall to the Montreal Jazz Festival. Their 2004 album Mocca Flor topped the German world music charts and later earned a Gold Record; two ECHO awards followed in 2010 and 2011. Their 2025 album Inside the Island, recorded on the Greek island of Samos, marks the debut of guitarist Philipp Schiepek as a permanent member.
