Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926) was an Austrian poet and prose writer, one of the most significant German-language authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for the Duino Elegies and the Sonnets to Orpheus. His work is characterised by profound lyricism, existential themes, and a search for the meaning of human existence.
