Robert Owens (born August 17, 1961, Ohio) is an American singer, songwriter, producer and DJ who came up through the Chicago house scene of the mid-1980s. He co-founded Fingers Inc. with producer Larry Heard and Ron Wilson, and his gospel-rooted baritone became one of the defining voices of the genre - heard on classics such as "Tears" (with Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie) and "I'll Be Your Friend", which reached number one on the US Hot Dance/Club Play chart. He has continued releasing and touring well into the 2020s, with appearances at venues like Berghain and the Sydney Opera House.
