Spider Murphy Gang is a Munich rock band founded in 1977 by Günther Sigl, Barny Murphy, Michael Busse and Franz Trojan. Their name comes from a character in Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock". Mixing classic rock 'n' roll with Bavarian dialect and sharp social satire, they became one of the defining acts of the Neue Deutsche Welle with the 1981 chart-topper "Skandal im Sperrbezirk", which sold around 750,000 copies. After more than four decades on stage they remain an active live band, touring Germany every year.
