Suffocation are an American death metal band from Long Island, New York, active since 1988. Their 1991 debut Effigy of the Forgotten set the template for both technical and brutal death metal, making them one of the genre's most widely cited founding forces. Nine studio albums later - the most recent being Hymns from the Apocrypha (2023) on Nuclear Blast - the band continues to tour globally with vocalist Ricky Myers, who stepped in after founding frontman Frank Mullen's departure.
