About

Swan Lake is a classical ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875-76, first performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on 4 March 1877. The original production flopped, but the 1895 revival at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg - choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov - became the definitive version that virtually every company performs today. The story follows Princess Odette, cursed by the sorcerer Von Rothbart to live as a swan by day, and Prince Siegfried who falls in love with her. It is widely regarded as the most performed and best-loved ballet in the world.
