Herbst in Peking & Tarwater
Herbst in Peking and Tarwater, two experimental music acts, share the stage at Café Saalekiez in Halle.
Tarwater is a Berlin-based electronic duo formed in 1995 by Bernd Jestram and Ronald Lippok, who had previously played together in East Berlin's underground punk scene. Their sound - loop-driven, with half-spoken vocals and a restless mix of electronic and analogue textures - has earned them a lasting place in the post-rock and indie-electronic canon. Over thirteen studio albums on labels including Kitty-Yo, Morr Music and Bureau B, they have also composed for film, theatre and radio, collaborating with figures such as Iggy Pop, Alva Noto and Tilda Swinton.
The radio play 'The Sick Bag Song', for which Tarwater composed the music, won a Gold award at the 2025 New York Festivals Radio Awards in the audiobook category.
Tarwater performed at Kampnagel in Hamburg in April 2025.
Tarwater released 'Nuts of Ay' on 22 November 2024 via Morr Music - their thirteenth studio album and first in ten years, featuring guest contributions from Alva Noto, Masha Qrella and Schneider TM.
Tarwater held a record release party in Berlin in October 2024 to mark the launch of 'Nuts of Ay'.
Tarwater scored the award-winning radio play 'The Sick Bag Song', based on a Nick Cave poem and featuring Tilda Swinton, Paula Beer and Alexander Fehling.
