About

Tristan und Isolde is an opera by Richard Wagner, first performed in Munich in 1865. Wagner wrote the libretto himself, drawing on the medieval legend of the doomed love between the knight Tristan and the Irish princess Isolde. The work is famous for its harmonic daring - the so-called Tristan chord had a profound influence on the course of Western music.
