Richard Wagner: Tristan und Isolde
Schloss Hohentübingen, Germany

Opera performed concisely, compellingly, and with emotion: Solistenensemble D'Accord, led by violinist Martina Trumpp-a figure well-known in Tübingen-has earned international recognition over recent years with its 90-minute opera paraphrases. The ensemble has performed its Wagner arrangements at the Bayreuther Festspiele in Richard Wagner's home Wahnfried. It has also appeared at Hohenschwangau Castle, where Wagner visited King Ludwig II, and has been a guest at Brucknerfest Linz and the Elbphilharmonie.
The arrangement of Wagner's groundbreaking opera "Tristan und Isolde" for six string instruments "listens deeply into the musical structures of the work and reveals its individuality," according to ORF: "Enigmatic chords become transparent threads of fate in this setting, teetering on the brink of rupture; music saturated with passion suddenly reveals itself as genuine heartache; and thickly applied operatic arias transform into sensitive, intimate song moments." The CD recording of this version was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize and celebrated by the music and opera magazine concerti as a "masterpiece."
The moderation of this extraordinary concert is handled by actress Michaela May, herself a devoted fan of classical music and Wagner, and a frequent guest on the Bayreuth red carpet.
