U.K. Subs are a London punk rock band formed in 1976 by vocalist Charlie Harper, who remains the group's only constant member across nearly five decades. They were among the earliest acts in Britain's first wave of punk and helped pioneer street punk and hardcore, scoring four Top 20 UK albums and seven consecutive Top 40 singles between 1979 and 1981. Their debut, 'Another Kind of Blues' (1979), reached number 21 on the UK charts, and the live album 'Crash Course' (1980) broke the Top Ten. With over 20 studio albums released and a lineup that has seen more than 75 musicians pass through, the band continues to tour internationally under Harper's leadership.
UK Subs played dates in Germany (Cologne, Hannover, Bremen) in November 2026, with further European festival appearances listed for summer 2026.
The band is scheduled to appear at the Hells Bells Festival in Szczecin, Poland on 27 June 2026 and at the Ruhrpott Rodeo Festival in Hünxe, Germany in July 2026.
Three members of the band - bassist Alvin Gibbs, guitarist Marc Carrey and drummer Stefan Häublein - were detained at LAX on 19 March 2025 and deported back to the UK; vocalist Charlie Harper was admitted and performed at LA Punk Invasion with stand-in musicians.
The band announced two new guitarists for 2025: Abe Inglis for UK shows and Marc Carrey for European dates, replacing Steve Straughan.
Cleopatra Records released 'Reverse Engineering' on 1 July 2022, billed at the time as the band's final studio album.
