Víkingur Ólafsson (born 1984 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic pianist signed to Deutsche Grammophon whose recordings have surpassed one billion streams. Trained at the Juilliard School, he has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and many other leading ensembles. His 2023 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations won the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo and earned him the Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal - the first Icelander to receive it.
Ólafsson released his new Deutsche Grammophon album Opus 109 - Beethoven · Bach · Schubert on 21 November 2025, centred on Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 30, Op. 109.
