Wolfgang Lackerschmid (born 19 September 1956 in Tegernsee) is a German vibraphonist, bandleader and composer who has shaped the European jazz scene since the 1970s. He has appeared on over 200 recordings alongside figures such as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Albert Mangelsdorff and Paquito D'Rivera, and his compositions have entered the repertoire of musicians worldwide. His 1979 duo album "Ballads for Two" with trumpeter Chet Baker remains a landmark of the genre. Based in Augsburg, he also writes for orchestra, theatre and ballet, and since 2016 has served on the national board of the German Jazz Union.
Lackerschmid released the duo album "Sharing Secrets" with soprano Stefanie Schlesinger on Dot Time Records, spanning jazz, classical and Broadway repertoire.
"Sharing Secrets" was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award) shortlist 3/2025.
Lackerschmid and Schlesinger performed the "Sharing Secrets" programme at the Jazztage Dresden festival on 20 November 2025.
Wolfgang Lackerschmid Connection is scheduled to perform at Theaterstübchen in Kassel on 22 October 2026.
