Urology covers far more than just being the "gynaecologist for men". It accompanies people at every stage of life - children, women, and men alike - making it a broad medical field that directly affects the quality of life of many people.
A central focus of the evening is men's health: testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, while prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men overall. With age come additional concerns such as an enlarged prostate, declining bladder function, or changes in potency. But urology is not exclusively a men's issue: 25 to 30 percent of urology patients are women, dealing with recurrent urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, or pelvic floor problems. Bladder and kidney cancer, as well as kidney stones, affect both sexes. Urolithiasis is now considered a widespread condition, around 50 percent of congenital malformations involve urological organs, and bedwetting is the most common disorder in childhood after respiratory infections.
Many of these topics go unspoken out of embarrassment - even though they are common and highly treatable. Prof. Dr. Schultz-Lampel and Prof. Dr. Lampel will shed light on modern diagnostics and explain how personalised therapies are used today: from minimally invasive endoscopic procedures and laser therapy to robot-assisted surgery.
