Hans Sachs Spiele - Hans Sachs Spiele — Toppler Theater, Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Description was written before the event

Two Hans Sachs farces framed by Hans Sachs music from Rothenburg

The witty and refined shoemaker-poet Hans Sachs from Nuremberg would surely have delighted in the performances of the "Rothenburger Hans-Sachs-Spiele", founded in 1921 by Theodor Schletterer. These plays open the theatrical season in Rothenburg o. d. T. as early as winter and spring under the motto "Farces in the Tavern", providing a cheerful and spirited start.

Until November, passionate amateur actors perform on various stages in Rothenburg, captivating audiences from the first moment in the "Toppler-Theater" or "Theater am Burgtor". The performances are framed by one of Franconia's oldest and most renowned folk music groups, the "Rothenburger Hans-Sachs-Musik", whose repertoire ranges from traditional Franconian dances to Renaissance intradas by Rothenburg composer Erasmus Widmann (1572-1634).

The cunning peasant, the even more cunning horse thief, the resolute wife, the henpecked husband - all these medieval Franconian characters who could just as easily be living among us today. The "Rothenburger Hans-Sachs-Gilde's" ability to present these old farces so vividly, as if they had happened yesterday, is what sets their performances apart.
