Word acrobat and pianist, actor and comedian: wordplay and musical playfulness run like a red thread through Bodo Wartke's rich and varied repertoire. Few German-speaking artists present themselves as versatile as this Berlin-based performer. No wonder his shows have won awards. Sometimes humorous, sometimes with sharp social critique, he wins the hearts of his audience.
His trademark is an unusual yet highly musical rhyme combined with catchy and meticulously crafted music. For Wartke, language is always also music, and music gives language structure. He applies his skills to a broad spectrum of themes - from playful rhyming etudes through complex love songs to politically and socially critical chansons.
With his own self-composed and self-written songs, he has already created six piano cabaret programs as a soloist; to these are added two more best-of programs with orchestras and one with his band. Beyond this, he has released two modern retellings of ancient dramas in which he himself performs as an actor: King Oedipus and Antigone after Sophocles.
Whether tap-dance numbers, poems, pop hits, or freshly interpreted Mozart sonatas - Wartke's musical repertoire knows no bounds. And thematically, the artist dances at many weddings. From chansons brimming with wordplay like "Liebeslied", which he has composed in 88 different languages, through socially critical works like "Monica", to politically motivated songs like "Hambacher Wald": this versatile pianist draws inspiration for his texts and melodies from the multifaceted aspects of social and private life.
