In her new novel "Im Licht des neuen Tages" (S. Fischer), Jarka Kubsova - known for "Marschlande" - returns to Bohemia. In the Bohemian forest, the fates of two women become intertwined: the writer Elli Hajek recalls Viktorka, a woman declared insane who once lived alone in the woods. When Elli discovers that Viktorka was real, she travels to the country she herself fled as a child.

What begins as a search for traces turns into a reckoning with her own suppressed past. The conversation with the Hamburg-based author is led by F.A.Z. critic Melanie Mühl.
