The third concert of the Kammermusikwoche Bernd Glemser & Freunde centres on two great Romantic trios - by Johannes Brahms and Gabriel Fauré. Brahms brings his characteristic dramatic-lyrical voice as a composer of "absolute music"; Fauré stands at the threshold of Impressionism with a poet's lightness of touch.
For this chamber partnership, Artist in Residence Bernd Glemser has invited clarinettist Dimitri Ashkenazy, a long-standing friend and close musical collaborator. Making his first appearance in Maulbronn is Swiss cellist Joël Marosi.
The two trios are framed by works in smaller combinations: a Sonata for cello and piano by Claude Debussy, a Duo for clarinet and cello by Paul Hindemith, and a Capriccio for solo clarinet by Ernesto Cavallini. Together they open a broad panorama of music history, drawing unexpected connections across works, composers and eras.
