Concert II
Nikolaikirche, Kiel, Germany
Following the restoration of the organs at St. Nikolai, a new concert series marks the autumn opening of the season - an invitation to hear these instruments at their best.
As a prelude to the performance of "Elijah" on 4 October, Mahela Reichstatt (Schleswig Cathedral), Magne Draagen (St. Michaelis Hamburg) and Volkmar Zehner will perform the major organ works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: the three Preludes and Fugues op. 37 and the six Sonatas op. 65 - alongside works by J. S. Bach, Norwegian Romantics and Olivier Messiaen.
Mahela T. Reichstatt is cathedral organist and cathedral cantor at Schleswig Cathedral. She studied church music and organ at the HfMT Hamburg, graduating with a Master's in Organ, a Master's in Church Music A and a Concert Diploma in Organ with distinction. As a scholarship holder she undertook study residencies in Lyon, Toulouse and Vienna. She is a national prize-winner at "Jugend musiziert", a laureate of the 1st Organ Competition in Shanghai (2017) and received a special prize at the 11th M. Tariverdiev Organ Competition in Russia (2019). Alongside her organ repertoire she also performs as a jazz pianist and trumpet soloist. On the occasion of the organ being named "Instrument of the Year 2021", she founded the digital organ platform Schleswig (YouTube).
