Romantic choral music

The Philharmonia Chor Stuttgart performs at the Blasiusdom cathedral on Swiss National Day, Saturday 1 August at 17:00. The programme opens with two Baroque works by Johann Pachelbel and Johann Hermann Schein, followed by Romantic compositions by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Albert Becker, Franz Liszt, and Edvard Grieg.

To close, Prof. Johannes Knecht (Lübeck / Stuttgart) conducts two choral works from the English Romantic tradition and a spiritual.

Dieter Hubov (Arbon) plays organ works by Camille Saint-Saens and Marcel Dupré.

About the venue: Dom St. Blasien

Dom St. Blasien is an 18th-century domed basilica in the southern Black Forest, built between 1768 and 1783 to designs by the French architect Michel d'Ixnard. Its rotunda, modelled on the Pantheon in Rome, is one of the largest church domes in Central Europe. Today the cathedral serves as the church of a Jesuit college and regularly hosts classical concerts and major ecclesiastical events.
