The Measurement of the World - Premiere

A co-production by Theater Fiesemadände and TheaterKorona - for young people and adults from age 14 (90 minutes, with intermission).

Toward the end of the 18th century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. Alexander von Humboldt fights his way through jungle and steppe, navigates the Orinoco, tests poisons on himself, counts lice on indigenous peoples, crawls into holes in the earth, and climbs volcanoes. The mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauß prefers to stay at home - and proves in his native Göttingen that space itself curves. Now old, famous, and somewhat eccentric, the two meet in 1828 in Berlin.

The play freely adapts Daniel Kehlmann's novel, telling the story of these two scientists' lives. Performance rights held by Rowohlt Theaterverlag, Reinbek bei Hamburg.
