Sommer am See 2026 - JazzTime BB presents: Little Vintage Orchestra
Alte TÜV Halle, Böblingen, Germany
Charleston, Marlene Dietrich, "Gone with the Wind", suspenders and golden cigarette holders - the spirit of the Roaring Twenties blends charm and wit with a whiskey-soaked melancholy. Little Vintage Orchestra plays music that is timelessly bittersweet, evoking a past that many listeners never lived through themselves.
The repertoire runs from Louis Armstrong's "St. James Infirmary" and "Royal Garden Blues" to standards like "As Time Goes By" and "La vie en rose". The heavier melodies echo the Depression-era America of the 1930s, while the upbeat numbers capture the humour of a generation that had seen hard times. Everything is arranged for four wind players, each a soloist in their own right.
Ensemble founder, trumpeter and arranger Johannes Stange studied jazz trumpet under Prof. Stephan Zimmermann and jazz composition under Prof. Jürgen Friedrich at the Hochschule für Musik Mannheim - as did his fellow musicians Gary Fuhrmann, Olaf Schönborn, Garrelt Sieben, Konrad Hinsken and Martin Simon. Guitarist Marcus Armani was shaped in part by jazz and classical recordings from the 1920s and 1930s that he discovered in his parents' record collection.
