German premiere - choreography by Chun Zhang
"Eclipse" is a contemporary dance work that combines choreography, sound, and visual spaces. The starting point is the Thai martial art Krabi Krabong: double sticks become props, instruments, and spaces of expression for an international ensemble of dancers. Minimalist costumes, precise images of light and smoke, and a dense soundscape composed of techno rhythms, voices, and stick strikes create the framework. Between ritual and rupture, resistance and tenderness, a movement language emerges that liberates martial arts from its folkloric context and makes it an experiential process of relationship and transformation.
Chun Zhang is a choreographer and recipient of the Kurt Jooss Prize. In 2015 she studied choreography at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen; in 2019 she founded the ensemble YIBU. Choreography, concept, direction, set design, and costumes are by Chun Zhang; composition and choreographic collaboration are by Kai Strathmann.
