"A Certain Trigger" is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding debut albums of the 2000s. When Maxïmo Park released it in 2005, they shook the British music scene - a mix of punk attitude, catchy pop melodies, and boundless energy catapulted it straight into the UK top 15. After achieving platinum status and selling over half a million copies, it's clear: singles like "Apply Some Pressure" and "Graffiti" have remained anthems of the indie-disco era of the noughties.

The band formed at the turn of the millennium in Newcastle: guitarist Duncan Lloyd, drummer Tom English, bassist Archis Tiku, and keyboardist Lukas Wooller found their frontman in Paul Smith - he convinced them with his rendition of a Stevie Wonder song in a small bar. They borrowed the band name from Máximo Gómez Park in Miami. Their first label was Warp Records, otherwise known for electronic music.

After "A Certain Trigger" came further albums: "Our Earthly Pleasures" (2007), "Quicken the Heart" (2009), and "The National Health" (2012) - both again in the UK top 15. With "Too Much Information" (2014) and the politically charged "Risk to Exist" (2017), they continued their story. After Tiku and Wooller left the band for personal reasons, the group carried on as a trio and released "Nature Always Wins" (2021) and "Stream of Life" (2024).

For the 20th anniversary, "A Certain Trigger" is being reissued at the end of October with rarities and B-sides. Spring 2026 brings an anniversary tour across Germany - five dates featuring songs from the debut album plus hits and fan favourites from two decades. Art Brut will join as special guests.
