Rossini in Wildbad: Occasione - Gelegenheit macht Diebe 5

The opera opens with a dramatic thunderstorm scene at an inn, evoking the finale of Don Giovanni: Parmenione dines calmly while his anxious servant Martino suffers. Parmenione is a character of shifting nature - constantly disguising himself, lying, reinventing himself, manipulating, and tormenting his servant. Seeking shelter from the rain, Alberto arrives on his way to his unknown bride. When Parmenione switches the traveller's suitcase with his own, an absurd tale unfolds. Parmenione discovers a photograph of a young woman and Alberto's passport, deciding to steal his identity. He sets off in search of the supposed bride. But she has her own plans and has no intention of marrying a predetermined groom. Rossini's brilliant comedy about "alternative facts" was filmed in 2017 at the Kurtheater for NAXOS and is now being restaged with a new cast. The conductor is once again Music Director Antonino Fogliani, whose energetic musical perfection suits this mad comedy of errors.
