Anger and Warmth - How Sisterhood Changes Germany
St. Katharinen Hamburg, Germany
Reading and moderated discussion
Five Tekkal sisters - raised in Hanover as daughters of a Yazidi-Kurdish refugee family - take the stage together to present their book. For the first time, they tell their story together: about childhood and origins, about ruptures and alliances, about values such as empathy, courage, rebellion, and care. Their answer to hatred, agitation, and polarization is sisterhood and solidarity - and the question of what becomes possible when women refuse to diminish themselves but instead strengthen each other.
Their commitment began in 2014 with a report on the genocide perpetrated by the Islamic State against the Yazidi population. This led to the founding of the human rights organization "HAWAR.help", which provides support to traumatized women and girls worldwide. Through the educational initiative "GermanDream", they bring values education into schools and foster dialogue about democracy and integration.
The sisters work in very different fields: as a social entrepreneur, political scientist, and publicist; in operational humanitarian work; as a former Bundesliga footballer and founder of the empowerment program "Scoring Girls", which was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit; in nationwide networking and school workshops; and as a DJ, entertainer, and activist with media reach.
