Three soloists from the Hessischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra - Clara Andrada de la Calle, Liisa Randalu and Anne-Sophie Bertrand - perform chamber music for flute, viola and harp. The programme spans a wide arc: from John Dowland's "Lachrimae Pavane", known as the song "Flow, my Tears" in the early 17th century, through Debussy's "Syrinx" for solo flute - inspired by the Greek nymph who, fleeing from Pan, was transformed into reeds by her sisters - to Astor Piazzolla's "Histoire du Tango".
In Piazzolla's work, the Argentine composer and bandoneon player traces the historical development of tango music from the "Brothel (1900)" through the "Café (1930)" and "Nightclub (1960)" to the "Concert of Today". Alongside this, rarer pieces are heard, such as André Jolivet's "Petite Suite", Britten's Harp Suite Op. 83 (excerpts) and Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola and harp.
Concert duration: approximately 140 minutes - including intermission
