Urknall Zwo: Vicky and Co. - from the series: "From the Big Bang to the Fall of the Wall"
Brandenburger Theater, Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany
A few years ago, an accordionist from Preetz (West Germany) and an actor/singer from Pankow (East Germany) joined forces to create a sonic social history reflected in songs from East and West: "From the Big Bang to the Fall of the Wall". Now the first spin-off is complete: "Urknall Zwo. Vicky & Co."
Henry Nandzik and Dirk Rave have taken on the songs of the "musical guest workers" - where did they come from, what did they sing, and did what they sang for us in German actually have something to say? The two artists found not only the songs but also touching and quirky stories: of coercion and liberation, of "real" escapes, homesickness and wanderlust, of absurdly distorted "translations" and gems of German-language lyrics, of musically gifted GIs and performers who clearly struggled with the German language. Many of these songs tell us almost more about ourselves as Germans than about the people who sang them.
You will hear songs and chansons by Vicky Leandros, Gitte Haenning, Peter Maffay, Bill Ramsey and Elvis Presley - all newly arranged for accordion by Dirk Rave. Singing along is encouraged!
