Georg Kaiser's expressionist play "Von morgens bis mitternachts" - the story of a bank cashier who tries to break free from his bourgeois existence - was adapted by director Karlheinz Martin into a rigorously expressionist silent film. The radicalism of his approach alarmed the film industry at the time: the picture found no distributor and never reached German cinemas.
Screenings can only be traced in Japan, where the sole surviving print was held before being duplicated by the National Film Center. The film was subsequently restored by the Filmmuseum München.
