Description was written before the event

On October 14, 2026, Spiegel bestselling author Elisa Hoven reads from her new book "Fine Cracks" at the Hugendubel bookstore in Leipzig. The evening is moderated by Eric Marr.

In "Fine Cracks", Hoven illuminates both legal and biographical dark zones: security is an illusion, a verdict remains only an approximation of truth. The book explores the tangle of coincidences in the emergence of crimes - causes often hide deep in a person's history, yet sometimes lie so close that they are all the easier to overlook.

Elisa Hoven, born in 1982 in Berlin, is a professor of criminal law at the University of Leipzig and a judge at the Saxon Constitutional Court. She has conducted research in Cambridge, Harvard, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Phnom Penh, Basel, and Sydney. In addition to fiction, she publishes academic and children's books.
