Wild Tales

Six self-contained episodes built around humiliation and sometimes absurdly escalating revenge paint a sharp picture of contemporary Argentina - a society marked by deep social divides, corruption, arbitrariness and aggression. The segments are linked by a shared relish for dark, malicious wit, and their tone ranges from pitch-black comic scenarios to more understated social satire.

The film's virtuoso command of cinematic technique occasionally comes at the expense of character depth, but its gripping depiction of anarchic escalation makes for all the more striking social commentary.
