Münster Barock | Concert 1: Musical Friendship - Bach and Telemann

Bach and Telemann were bound by a friendship of mutual admiration. Like many artists of their era, they cultivated networks that frequently crossed national borders.

Telemann's European connections shaped his "mixed taste", blending French, Italian and Eastern European elements. Stylistically versatile and open to both the galant and the empfindsam style, he was a forerunner of the early Classical period. Bach, by contrast, was celebrated as a keyboard virtuoso and improviser - he studied, copied and transcribed the works of other musicians, mastering the diverse styles of his time. His intricate counterpoint defines a chamber music that bridges late Baroque tradition and a new musical language.
