Anton Reicha (1770-1836) - Quintet in E-flat major op. 88/2
Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) - Trois pièces brèves
Paul Taffanel (1844-1908) - Quintet in G minor
Franz Danzi, born in Mannheim as the son of Italian cellist Innozenz Danzi, worked primarily in his native city and later in Stuttgart and Munich. Stylistically, he stands in the tradition of the Mannheim School and is regarded as one of the pioneers of Romanticism. Anton Reicha, born in Prague, achieved his greatest successes in Paris; he remains known above all for his more than twenty virtuosic wind quintets. Jacques Ibert's compositions are marked by Impressionism and the Neoclassicism of Igor Stravinsky, with elegant virtuosity as a defining characteristic. Paul Taffanel, born in Bordeaux, was a flautist and composer; in addition to teaching at the Paris Conservatoire, he wrote primarily works for flute - his late Romantic wind quintet continues to receive considerable attention today.
