Feine Risse

Criminal law scholar Elisa Hoven presents her novel Feine Risse (S. Fischer 2026) at Burg Hardeg - exploring the moral grey zones of the legal profession: cases caught between law and justice, guilt and silence, truth and lies.

At the heart of the novel is criminal defence lawyer Eva Herbergen, who after many years in the courtroom arrives at a sobering conclusion: certainty is an illusion, and a verdict is always only an approximation of the truth.

Joined by crime specialist Ursula März, Hoven examines just how much chance plays a role in the making of a crime.
