Küf Kaufmann: Wodka ist immer koscher

Küf Kaufmann comes from Leipzig to Dresden's Herkuleskeule for a cabaret reading with live music, based on his book "Wodka ist immer koscher" published by Aufbau-Verlag.

In the Herkuleskeule's cabaret cellar, he reads from his turbulent life with Jewish humour and plenty of irony. Born in 1947 in the Soviet city of Marx - and that's no joke, because directly across the Volga stood a city called Engels, and the bridge connecting them bore Lenin's name. Until 1990, Kaufmann worked as a director at the state-run Leningrad Music Hall in what is now St. Petersburg. When a work trip brought him to Germany, he simply decided to stay; since then he has directed at various cabaret venues and performed across the country.

Kaufmann is chairman of the Israelite Religious Community in Leipzig and a member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany. He is accompanied by Thomas Feist (piano) and Thomas Kempe (saxophone).
