People want more than happiness - they seek meaning, which includes confronting their own mortality, fear, and the unknown. Cie. Freaks und Fremde embarks on a journey of ghosts through times, spheres, and cultures. Unlike traditional haunted houses that draw from monsters in literature, film, or video games, GHOST TRAIN ventures into the world of personal abysses: demons of everyday life, ghosts of the past, the foreign and inexplicable in every form.
Through sound-making, object and puppet theatre, live music, projections, and illusions, the ensemble travels with its audience through the abyss of night until sunrise. This is not about quick scares from giant spiders or zombies - Freaks und Fremde pursue the moment that comes after fear. The seemingly dead comes alive and stands before the audience, breathing and questioning.
"Where there are no gods, ghosts reign." (Novalis, 1799)
