In 1985, Rainer A. Schmidt, Wolf Götz Richter, and Ray Van Zeschau founded the film group FESA ("feige sau") and from 1986 organized the first independent Dresden Film Festival. Through surrealist films, FESA critiqued social oppression, environmental destruction, and militarization. In 1988, Schmidt and Van Zeschau established the band Freunde der italienischen Oper, merging film, music, and performance.

Following several reformations and projects, the album Kassandras Komplex was released in 2024. On October 3, 2026, the new album Angelus Luminis will be presented for the first time at HELLERAU as a film-music project - featuring guests such as René Pape.

About the venue: HELLERAU - Europäisches Zentrum der Künste

HELLERAU - Europäisches Zentrum der Künste is a historic arts centre in the garden city of Hellerau, Dresden's first garden city district. The Festspielhaus, built in 1911 by Heinrich Tessenow, was originally home to the Dalcroze Institute and became a pioneering stage for rhythm, dance and theatrical reform in early 20th-century Europe. Today it hosts contemporary dance, performance, theatre and interdisciplinary festivals, drawing artists and companies from across the continent.
