This German-French-Polish band from Bonn has carved out its own sound at the crossroads of global music and vocal jazz. The project was founded by Franco-American singer Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander "Sobo" Sobocinski, who met at a jazz session in Bonn in 2010 and have been pursuing the idea of genre-free music ever since. Their repertoire spans songs in French, Spanish, English, German and Romanes, acrobatic solos on guitar and violin, scat singing, original compositions and fresh takes on older classics.

On their third studio album "Gomera" (2024) - dedicated to the Canary Island where the two spent many winters gathering song ideas - the band shows that acoustic music without drums can still hit hard and carry real energy.

Press reviews

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: "Bringing the sound of Django Reinhardt into the 21st century is something Marion & Sobo Band pull off almost in passing. Gypsy Swing is their foundation, yet you never get the feeling you're listening to music from the past."

Jazzthethik: "Music rooted in nearly a century-old Jazz Manouche, yet transformed and refreshed by new influences."

SWR2: "Marion & Sobo Band are truly a group of passionate musicians you really should catch live - the spark flies in an instant, that much is certain."

SWR (Babette Michel, Jazz global - Magische Stimmen): "The notes flow from Marion Lenfant-Preus's lips like pearls; her music with Marion & Sobo Band swings and tells of places far off the beaten track."
