Two Eggs in a Glass, Please! - In the Romantic Café of the Golden Twenties - Premiere
Chawwerusch Theatersaal, Herxheim, Germany
22 €
The audience takes their seats in the midst of the action: at the tables of the legendary Romantic Café, that artists' café on the Ku'damm in Berlin during the golden twenties. Here people argue, write, love and dream. Musicians, writers and artists struggle for ideas, fame and the right line at the right moment.
Together, the spectators experience a single day - a day full of freedom, wildness, but also poverty and inner turmoil at the height of the Weimar Republic, which is already beginning to crumble. Outside, just a few steps away, street battles between the NSDAP and the KPD herald the end. Inside, something new emerges: the rise of a young talent in the firmament of poets, from nobody to somebody.
The Herxheim theatre transforms completely for this occasion: where the stage usually is, the café spreads out. The audience sits between the tables while the waiters whirl through the room - and remember. That one day when everything seemed possible.
