Martin Engelmann - In Search of ITALY

Martin Engelmann takes his audience on a personal journey through Italy - from the Dolomites through the Venice Carnival and the hills of Tuscany to Rome, Naples, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Sicily and Sardinia. Along the way, he encounters people who share their stories of longing, happiness and hope.

The starting point was a commission from the weekly magazine "DIE ZEIT" in 2010: Engelmann photographed South Tyrol, and the Dolomites awakened memories of childhood holidays on the Italian Adriatic. This grew into years of searching - for places of the past and new discoveries, captured photographically and cinematically.

Engelmann is known for his ten-year Maya project, which was published as a photo book by the National Geographic Society and was shown on ORF, ZDF, 3sat and BR, among others. He was a guest on "Markus Lanz", and his film documentary was published on Spiegel.TV and Spiegel Online.
