At the start of the performance, the actress receives a sealed envelope. She opens it on stage and reads the manuscript for the first time - the text and story unfold in real time alongside the audience.
Behind this lies a play by Iranian author Nassim Soleimanpour. He refused military service to pursue his studies, and as a result lost his passport - and with it, the ability to leave his homeland. In this isolation, he wrote a theatrical piece that was meant to travel the world in his place. The plan worked: since its premiere in 2011, the work has been performed in 50 countries, translated into 30 languages, and staged over 3,000 times. Personalities like Whoopi Goldberg and Christoph Maria Herbst have already taken on this experiment.
Colonia Theater brings the play to Cologne as part of a special performance series - a co-production with Colonia-Theater e.V.
