Description was written before the event

C.A.R. - contemporary art ruhr - celebrates its 20th anniversary with the INNOVATIVE ART FAIR at the UNESCO World Heritage site Zollverein. From 16 to 18 October 2026, the autumn fair presents contemporary art across four halls.

The exhibition concept features open space instead of traditional fair booths: all stands are freely accessible, facilitating direct exchange between visitors, artists, and exhibitors. Those interested in contemporary art can easily engage in conversation and acquire works.

About the venue: UNESCO-Welterbe Zollverein

Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen is a former colliery and coking plant listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Built in the 1920s and 1930s in a striking Bauhaus-influenced style, it was once the largest coal mine in the world. Today the sprawling site hosts museums, cultural events, concerts, and art exhibitions year-round.
