In the concentration camps of Westerbork and Theresienstadt, something almost unimaginable happened: cabaret - sometimes in secret, sometimes by order. Many arrested entertainment stars of the Weimar Republic performed there as well.
Frankfurt musician and cabaret artist Jo van Nelsen revives this nearly forgotten, yet deeply problematic chapter of cultural history through a grammophonlesung (gramophone reading). He tells the stories of imprisoned artists such as Isa Vermehren, Willy Rosen, Paul O'Montis and Kurt Gerron, reads their texts, sings their songs, and plays recordings from shellac records.
