Music and Its Context - What Do We (Today) Make of It?
took place · 3 Oct 2026
KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo, Leipzig, Germany
Description was written before the event
Music with text often carries values and attitudes from the time of its creation - which do not always align with today's fundamental values. Should we still perform such pieces? And what about works that were pushed out of programmes in earlier times?
This talk explores how contextualizing works can succeed both substantively and methodologically, without overlooking their historical background - and where that may not be possible. The focus is on the breaks and continuities in repertoire formation after 1945.
Admission is free.
