Karl Valentin (1882–1948) was a German comedian, cabaret performer and film actor from Munich. He was known for his absurdist humour and wordplay, which influenced generations of German comedians. His best-known work is the cabaret sketch Orchestral Rehearsal (Orchesterprobe).

About: Liesl Karlstadt

Liesl Karlstadt (1892-1960) was a German comic actress best known as the long-time stage partner of Karl Valentin. Together they defined Bavarian cabaret for decades, and their sketches and films remain classics of German popular comedy. Munich's Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum at the Isartor is dedicated to their shared legacy.

About the venue: Isartor

The Isartor is one of the three surviving medieval city gates of Munich, built in the 14th century as part of the second ring of fortifications. Its distinctive five-tower silhouette and the large fresco on the east facade - depicting Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian's triumphal return in 1322 - make it one of the most recognizable landmarks on the old town's eastern edge. The tower houses the Karl Valentin Musäum, dedicated to the famous Munich comedian and cabaret artist.
