Ragnhild Hemsing (violin & Hardanger fiddle)

Two female composers set the tone for the Heilbronn subscription concert series: Ragnhild Hemsing appears as soloist on both violin and Hardanger fiddle. Deeply rooted in Norwegian musical tradition, she has played both instruments since early childhood.

The centrepiece of the evening is the world premiere of "Stories", the latest work by Agnes Ida Pettersen, written expressly for Ragnhild Hemsing. Also on the programme is "Sound and Fury" by British composer Anna Clyne - named by Bachtrack as the most-performed composer of our time. Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor op. 26 rounds off the first half: a work beloved since its 1868 premiere, with a ballad-like opening movement, a singing Adagio, and a virtuosic finale in the Hungarian style.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy sketched the first ideas for his "Scottish Symphony" in July 1829 during a trip to Scotland - yet without the inspiring mists of the North, he could not bring the work to completion. It took another 12 years before Symphony No. 3 in A minor op. 56 was finished.
